Internal tooth lock washers are critical components in high-vibration assemblies, widely used in electrical connections, automotive systems, and precision equipment. Unlike flat washers, internal tooth lock washers feature sharp, inward-facing teeth that bite into the mating surface, enhancing friction and resisting rotational loosening. This mechanical locking function is essential in applications where consistent torque retention is required without relying solely on adhesives or thread-locking compounds.
Manufactured from high-strength materials such as stainless steel A2-70, carbon steel with zinc plating, and spring steel, internal tooth washers are available in metric sizes ranging from M3 to M20, aligning with DIN 6797 and ISO 7089 standards. The selection of material and surface finish is critical; for instance, stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance in marine and outdoor environments, while carbon steel variants provide high tensile strength in dry, enclosed assemblies.
Internal tooth lock washers are commonly installed beneath screw or bolt heads, or between the nut and the substrate, depending on load direction and access. Their circular serrations provide uniform pressure distribution while minimizing damage to softer substrates like aluminum or plastic.
