Flat washers are foundational components in bolted assemblies, widely used to distribute load, prevent surface damage, and improve fastening integrity. Typically manufactured in compliance with DIN 125, ISO 7089, and ASTM F844 standards, flat washers are available in a broad range of diameters (M3–M64) and material grades, including Grade 304 stainless steel, Grade 8 carbon steel, and zinc-plated low-carbon steel.
TAIMING, a dedicated supplier and manufacturer of industrial fasteners, emphasizes that flat washers not only improve clamping efficiency but also act as crucial barriers between mating surfaces, especially in high-torque or load-bearing applications. According to TAIMING’s internal stress distribution tests, using flat washers with Grade 10.9 bolts significantly reduces the risk of embedment and torque loss over time.
Flat washers are particularly essential in structural steel assemblies, electrical panels, automotive subframes, and heavy machinery. TAIMING advises clients to match washer thickness with bolt tensile strength, recommending 2.5mm thick washers for M16–M20 bolts in dynamic load settings. For corrosion-prone environments, electropolished stainless steel is preferred for enhanced resistance.
TAIMING’s engineering team further suggests selecting washers with chamfered edges or deburred finishes to reduce stress risers, especially in precision applications. Moreover, pairing flat washers with spring or lock washers can deliver added vibration resistance where necessary.
